It’s exactly what it sounds like.

Let me explain. Socially Relevant Pin-Up is my new passion project. I like the 50s pin-up style. I think a lot of artists do, actually. But it’s not very… relevant these days. Not very inclusive. Not very diverse. Dare I say it, perhaps not even all that “PC”.

So I thought I’d change that. Use the 50s pin-up style to do something with an actual point for once. Don’t get me wrong, I love drawing Batmen and pirates and all that stuff, but art should be challenging. Provoking. Hopefully I’ve managed that with Socially Relevant Pin-Up. I’m going to use the 50s pin-up style to explore ideas around diversity, disability and what beauty actually is. What it isn’t, by the way, is what the old-fashioned view says. We’ve moved past that thankfully. I hope.
